How is the air pollution in Tokyo in July?

Posted by admin on January 21st, 2011 and filed under air pollution | 3 Comments »

I hope to make a trip to Japan in July. I would like to avoid areas with heavy smog. Last time I was in Tokyo, I couldn’t see the sun/sky for the pollution. How is the air in Tokyo in July?
Would Yokohama or Chiba or Saitama be any better?
Any recommendations for cities or prefectures with relatively clear air in July?

It must have been awhile since you were last in Tokyo. By the late-’80s, the air quality in Tokyo had already surpassed that of Los Angeles. By 2000, I would say Tokyo is cleaner than any city in Asia.

Yokohama is close enough to Tokyo that the weather and air quality will be the same. Personally, I have not or cannot tell any difference these days when it comes to air quality in Tokyo, Chiba, and Saitama.

If you really are into clean air, go to Hokkaido (Hakodate, Sapporo, etc). Weather is pretty nice in July, too.

Dreaming of fallen apple trees?

Posted by admin on January 18th, 2011 and filed under red apple falls | 2 Comments »

Hi, I have been dreaming constantly of fallen apple trees. I am in my grandparents house. And in my dream, its as if a storm has happened which has rooted these trees (I never see the storm). Now, in the front yard, there are fallen trees with red, ripe apples on them and loads of them (like each branch has like 10 apples). So I go and pick the fruit off the fallen tree and put it in baskets. I even taste the fruit and its delicious.
In my dreams, I see other fruit trees falling too, and collecting its fruit (i think mulberry) but I never remember them. I just remember the apple trees.
Any ideas? (and no,I am not sad or anything during the dream. More like a matter-of-fact collecting apples)
I should also mention that my grandparent’s house is in a part of the world where apples dont grow. SO I am somewhat surprised at finding apples in their yard as well.

Do you get a positive pregnancy test only after implantation has occurred?

Posted by admin on January 16th, 2011 and filed under test only | 4 Comments »

My period is not due for a couple more days. So i was curious I got a positive pregnancy test a week before my period which means I would only be 3 and a half weeks pregnant.

Yep that happened to me with this one. I was 3 weeks and 3 days when I got my BFP which means like days after ovulation i was pregnant or I ovulated earlier. Turns up it was the first one because my son is measuring up with the original due date in all his ultrasounds besides the being a little big.

Should I be concerned with air pollutants affecting the baby during pregnancy?

Posted by admin on January 13th, 2011 and filed under pollutants | 1 Comment »

My wife is from Senegal and would like to return for a 1 to 1.5 month visit before her 3rd trimester begins. She is 19 wks as of today. A concern that we have is that, depending upon the area of Dakar, the air pollutants can be fairly bad. How concerned should we be about my wife breathing in air that is not so pure and affecting our baby’s development?

It can be bad :-(

Is it possible for her to stay away from the badly polluted areas?

Is it possible to take specific pollutants out of water?

Posted by admin on January 12th, 2011 and filed under pollutants | 1 Comment »

I’m trying to come up with a science project and my partner and I want to do something on tracking specific pollutants in a river and observing their effects on the environment, but we need an independent variable so I figured that we could either self-pollute the river (not exactly kosher…) or take out a pollutant and see the difference. Is that even possible?

If you took a sample of water and electrified it and had all the equipment you could extract cretin pollutants. But with just a filter it would take them all out.

What are the pollutants released by the burning of tires?

I’ve looked online and get a straight answer anywhere? If you do know could you please be specific about what pollutants are released in the toxic smoke.
Thanks earthman that was what I was looking for.

Instead of me doing a copy-and-past job, check out the links below, they have what you want.

Can you get an emissions test in Illinois if your Check engine light is on?

Posted by admin on January 6th, 2011 and filed under emissions testing | 2 Comments »

I was told that if your check engine light is on that you cant not get an emission test done in Chicago. My check engine light is currently on. I was told I need a new 02 sensor.

My car seems to be running fine but the check engine light is on. Would it be a waste of time to take it to the emission testing place?

i know that here in CA, that is a visual fail, before they even drive it in. that light is on for one of so many reasons and most of them are emission control related. pull the codes and see what the problem is. it could be a simple loose gas cap.

What are the average entry level smog tech wages at full service or test only shops?

just have to check shops in your area to see what they pay. Bay area may pay more like around 18-20$ per hour.
